Just purchased a new Yeti from Bison Bikes. I have purchased numerous bikes from many different shops and can say this was easily the best experience I have had purchasing a new bike.
I called Bison Bikes to see if they had the bike I wanted in stock and when they open on a Sunday. I learned the owner of the shop works by appointment only and offered to meet me at the shop to fit me for the bike I wanted. The appointment only service is fantastic as I was the only customer in the shop. I was fitted perfectly to the bike I wanted based on how I described my riding style. The bike was ordered from Yeti and arrived, was built and ready to be picked up in under a week.
When the bike was ready I received a text message from Kendall (owner) and arranged a time to meet at the shop to pick it up. When I arrived we went over everything about the bike. Making sure the seat height and reach were ideal, to tips on setting up suspension, brakes, shifting, tire pressure, how to safely clean and lubricate, everything I could need to know about my new bike.
Great experience and I will definitely refer my friends to Bison Bikes.

Wow! Service truly unlike anywhere else!!!
I just picked up a new Yeti SB5 from Kendall, the owner of Bison Bikes, where he graciously met me at 7:30am on a Sunday morning. I was driving up from the Bay Area and it was 100% worth it!
As someone who's been riding road bikes seriously for 15 years or so and having move more into mountain biking over the last 5 plus years, I thought I possessed a decent understanding of how to make my way around my mountain bike - any mountain bike. Boy, was I wrong. I showed up this morning with the bike all set and just needing some basic fitting and then Kendall walked me through everything including setting up the suspension in detail, the rebound (e.g., front fork where no one else showed me where that even existed on my other not so inexpensive bike) and a number of other parts and adjustments. No one has ever spent that kind of time going over my bikes' operations at that level of detail and, even knowing that he was going off to spend the rest of the day with the family, not once did I feel rushed. Kendall would have clearly spent more time if I needed it.
Besides being immensely knowledgeable, Kendall is warm, practical and down to earth. His level of service is a standout and it's people like him that make you more than comfortable - and, pleased - with going out of your way to find and work with him. I have already begun letting my friends know about him and my only regret would be not living closer to him!

I can't believe it has taken me this long to review Bison Bikes. I have bought dozens of Bikes from Kendall over the last 10 plus years and have also referred numerous friends to him for purchase, service, and repairs. He is a first class person that runs a first class bike shop. I just outfitted my family with mountain bikes and, once again, Bison Bikes came through. He takes more time and puts in more effort than ANY other bike shop you will find.

Amazing service that you will not get anywhere else! Kendall (the owner) goes above and beyond to help answer any questions you may have. I bought my Yeti SB5.5 through him and it was the best choice I made. Kendall had the bike shipped to his shop extremely quick and he built the bike up so it would be ready to go when I got there. When I picked up the bike he spent as much time with me as I needed to go over all my questions about maintenance on the bike. I have been back to his shop several times and would recommend anyone looking to get a new bike or bike parts go to Bison Bikes!

There is a lore about using your LBS (local bike shop), in exchange for paying tax (gasp), you get personalized service, fitting, great recommendations, a properly built bike, etc.. Sadly this is not always the experience. It's not to say other shops are bad, but with medium/larger shops it can really depend on who you talk to. Even living in a bike mecca like Bend, OR, I relied on friends that worked in shops as opposed to walking in.
The appointment based set up has a lot of advantages when buying a higher end bike. It's a relatively large investment that you will own for many years, requires regular maintenance on your end, and can be the difference between enjoying busting your a$$ on a ride or suffering. I'd like to consider myself an experienced rider, between commuting, mtn biking, and road biking, I'm on a bike every day and always work on and build up my own. But if you haven't bought a new bike in a while, a lot has changed and I wasn't sure I was even asking the right questions. Kendall has a way of explaining tons of detail in a friendly way that opens conversation. Even things I thought I knew (like cleaning and lubing), I picked up some great tidbits. There's a limited selection of accessories (compared to bigger shops), but it's all high quality stuff at very good prices, basically only what you would want to buy.
I've been wanting to add a carbon road bike as my vintage steel frame was getting too much wear and tear. After finding a cool LBS with a drool worthy selection of mountain bike brands, now I think I found an excuse to upgrade my old trustworthy mtn bike later this year (hopefully). :)

When was the last time you saw the repair work for your bike on a 42" monitor? Not recently (or ever) I suppose and ditto for me. I am a recent crossover road biker to mountain biker. The six year old Yeti ASR-c I purchased needed some love. The first bike mechanic gave me a load of negativity over the phone after going through all the work it needed. That experience was a stark contrast to the call from Kendall of Bison Bikes who said (with an uplifting tone) "This was one of my bigger challenges but I got rid of the annoying creaky noise and am still within the original price quote for the work". When I arrived at his shop, the Yeti was spotlessly clean and Kendall was amped up to show me what he had done. His iPhone connected to the big screen and away we went on a tour of the before and after photos of the areas getting his attention. The result was a wonderfully quiet smooth running bike and a great repair shop experience with an owner/mechanic totally passionate about bikes and customer service. Boom!

The owner is super down to earth, an expert in bike knowledge and I dont think he could be any more honest. I had some tune up stuff done on my mountainbike.
That being said, I think wanting to do the best job he can to fix your bike can become costly. But I'll go back just because I dont want to deal with my bike lol.
Aside from that, if I had to gripe about anything else, itd be the hours. By appointment only.

We do our best to be mindful of ALL budgets and ask owners at the time of drop off what they’d like to spend. However sometimes there’s a minimum that has to be spent to keep a bike in safe riding condition.
Bison Bikes is an appointment-only shop. The vast majority of our customers love having time set aside just for them but it’s not for everyone and we understand that! We appreciate your business!!

Over twenty years of cycling I have purchased numerous bikes from a variety of bike shops but none of these experiences can compare to working with Kendall at Bison Bikes. Cycle tech has changed dramatically over the last few years and Kendall took the time to bring me up to speed on all of the new advances from the front to the back on my new Pivot Mach 429 sl. Im not talking about being sold to. Kendall took an hour plus to fit me to the bike and educate me on how to get the most out it. His prices are better than everywhere I looked as well, even web based shops. Byson Bikes offers a customer experience that is simply on another level. Do yourself favor and call Kendall at Bison Bikes.

First, I never write reviews, I read then just never wrote them. So the fact that I am compelled to write this review means a lot. Enough rambling.
I am new to cycling, started riding in May 2016 with my Fuji Hybrid bike. His guy is great he took his time with me and explained everything so well. Since I have been riding I have been to several bike stores, can't help it when I drive by a store my car automatically stops. In comparison to the service I have gotten at other places, I will return to Bison to purchase my next bike, a road bike this time.
If you are looking to purchase a bike and want the best personal service ever, I totally recommend visiting Bison Bikes.
This is will be the only shop I purchase bikes from because of the owners knowledge and service. Have I made it clear his guy is AWESOME.

Having never heard of Bison Bikes, or it's owner Kendall, I drove for 90 minutes to the shop to purchase a Pivot Mountain Bicycle that he had in stock. I was expecting a decent experience, but Kendall turned this into a superb, thoroughly enjoyable time. First, I had the owner's complete attention for an hour (or more) with zero interruptions, while he adjusted the bike and installed the options I asked for. The entire time, he is filling me with information about the bicycle, how to adjust, clean and maintain it as well as fun places to ride. I learned more about my new bike and mountain bikes in general, during this visit than in the previous six years visiting other shops to get my old bike serviced.
The service didn't stop when I left the shop either. I emailed questions, with accompanying videos and pictures and they were all answered promptly and thoroughly. If I had used another shop to get this information, I'd have to load the bike on the car, drive up to the shop, ask my questions, possibly leave the bike and come back to get it. So I wouldn't be surprised, in the end, if it's actually more efficient to drive to Bison Bikes than to visit the local shop.
I ride road bikes too, and expect to purchase a new one later this year. I'll definitely be returning to Kendall when I'm ready for a new road bike.
While "appointment only" might seem a disadvantage at first, it is actually a fantastic way to purchase a bike compared to working owners distracted by multiple customers, or employees that just don't have the experience and knowledge of the owner.

I wanted to take the time to thank Kendall with Bison Bikes for his over the top courtesy and amazing customer service. I called in to set up an appointment to have my bike reconditioned; not only was he extremely professional in conduct, but my bike looked like new with every detail payed attention to. He even helped adjust the seat correctly to my height, assisted me with installing my bike lock and put my bike in my car for me. Thanks Kendall! Well done :D

This review has been a long time coming. Kendall was awesome and I highly recommend going to his shop if you're looking to buy a bike.
It had been ages since I'd ridden a bike as a child - but I had decided to buy a road bike for working out. I made several trips to a larger, more well known bike shop in the Roseville area, but I often had problems with the customer service and trying to order the bike I wanted (the order was cancelled after it was placed because they actually did not have any more in stock!), so I decided to look elsewhere. I'm 5'1... so it was hard to find a bike small enough for me that I felt comfortable riding. My husband and I did some research online, trying to find other bike shops in the area.
We came across Kendall's shop... his website was a huge factor for us choosing to visit his shop: he had current information on the bikes he had available (plus pictures with measurements, which was key because I was looking for something specific). He had several bikes in smaller sizes, so I had a few options which was great (because these sizes are surprisingly hard to find, even at other shops with larger inventory). Plus he said he's able to order bikes if he doesn't have them in stock.
Kendall's shop is by appointment only, which I liked because I wanted help with questions, concerns, and sizing, and this way he could dedicate his time to individual customers. Although, he was pretty busy helping another customer before me, as well as working on something for a customer after me - but I understand this is not his full time job so it didn't really bother me.
If you're looking to buy a bike, and you want someone who is knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful - then I definitely recommend this place!

Go to Bison Bikes for service, to purchase or just to meet a great guy. I have been using Kendall and Bison Bikes since 2006. Best ever !! I've bought new mtn. bikes there, replaced road bike frames, had countless services performed and there is no place better or person who is more concerned. Bison has always steered me in the right direction and as a person who races, that's important. Kendall keeps up to speed on the latest and knows what's best for the right price.

Buy your next bike from Kendall, period! There is no one I trust more to purchase from or have service my bikes than Kendall. I've run the gamut of phases in biking, from being a avid intermediate road and mountain biker, to racing internationally for years, and back to an avid recreational rider, and Kendall has been a rock through it all; for advice, for support, for service, and for product.
I once returned from a brutal race in Brazil with my Santa Cruz XC Blur in pieces. The bike was a mess of snapped cables, ruptured brake calibers, scarred brake disks; even the paint was scrapped off most of the bike. I loved that bike. I handed the mess over to Kendall (who confidently assured me all would be fine), and then he worked his magic. When he was done, the paint job was incredible, everything worked perfectly, and it rode better than ever. I continued racing on that bike for years, until it was stolen (ugh!!).
Of course, Bison Bikes is where I bought my replacement mountain bike. For many reasons, yes, he's a great guy, so much knowledge, honest, dependable, passionate, and fair. But here's the really important part. Kendall doesn't just sell you a bike to sell you a bike. He truly wants you to have the best experience possible and takes time and effort to make it fit just right...making sure you have the RIGHT bike. Buy the right bike and you will have it a decade or longer, and enjoy it immensely. I have freakishly long legs, short torso, and disproportionately long arms. Several years ago, Kendall built me a road bike that is the most comfortable road bike I have ever had...a BH Carbon. He took time to make sure it was the right one for me, and was set up correctly. So when I replaced my stolen Blur last year, Kendall, once again, built me the most comfortable and enjoyable mountain bike I've ever had.
Call Bison Bikes, trust Kendall...I'm certain you will a very happy biker.

I can't say enough good things about Kendall!! I've been taking our bikes to him for the past 6 years and I couldn't be happier with the service he provides. He should write a book on customer service I feel it's that good...he makes everyone feel like a friend and Kendall is truely concerned about doing a great job for you. Not only have we bought great bikes at discount prices from him, the maintenance he gives our bikes is great....and he's like the rare car mechanic you find that you trust w/o question. He doesn't even need to ask me on a tune-up / repair if something needs to be replaced I trust his opinion and he just does it. Contact Kendall beforehand, let him know what you're seeking and he will hook you up with a great bike at a very reasonable price. My garage is literally full of Bison Bikes purchased for my family (ok, I admit it...most of them are for me).

Last year I was referred to Bison Bikes by a good friend that had just purchased his first road bike through Kendall/owner of Bison Bikes. He spoke so highly of the great deal that he got, but even more so of the customer service that he received. My own experience has been awesome, mostly on the repair side of an older Mt. bike that Kendall efficiently fined tuned and at a very affordable price. He did such a great job that I think I have a few more good years of riding on my outdated Mt. bike. But when I decide that it is time to buy a new bike, I will not even hesitate to go through Kendall.

Bison Bikes is an appointment ONLY bike shop....Contacted Kendall the owner early Monday morning and had arranged to meet at his shop around 2. I had my eye on a Kestrel RT1000 that he had on Craigslist for over a month, and I knew I needed to check this bike out before it was sold. Kendall really took the time to upgrade the bar tape & adjust a few things and I was out the door w/ an amazing bike. They have an awesome selection and I whole heartedly recommend them to anyone who wants awesome service!

I’ve purchased several bikes here. The owner is amazing. Super friendly and no attitude like you experience at some bike stores. In addition, his prices are great, he’s super knowledgeable and goes beyond the norm to make sure you leave with a smile on your face. Highly recommend!

Just purchased a new Yeti from Bison Bikes. I have purchased numerous bikes from many different shops and can say this was easily the best experience I have had purchasing a new bike.
I called Bison Bikes to see if they had the bike I wanted in stock and when they open on a Sunday. I learned the owner of the shop works by appointment only and offered to meet me at the shop to fit me for the bike I wanted. The appointment only service is fantastic as I was the only customer in the shop. I was fitted perfectly to the bike I wanted based on how I described my riding style. The bike was ordered from Yeti and arrived, was built and ready to be picked up in under a week.
When the bike was ready I received a text message from Kendall (owner) and arranged a time to meet at the shop to pick it up. When I arrived we went over everything about the bike. Making sure the seat height and reach were ideal, to tips on setting up suspension, brakes, shifting, tire pressure, how to safely clean and lubricate, everything I could need to know about my new bike.
Great experience and I will definitely refer my friends to Bison Bikes.

Wow! Service truly unlike anywhere else!!!
I just picked up a new Yeti SB5 from Kendall, the owner of Bison Bikes, where he graciously met me at 7:30am on a Sunday morning. I was driving up from the Bay Area and it was 100% worth it!
As someone who's been riding road bikes seriously for 15 years or so and having move more into mountain biking over the last 5 plus years, I thought I possessed a decent understanding of how to make my way around my mountain bike - any mountain bike. Boy, was I wrong. I showed up this morning with the bike all set and just needing some basic fitting and then Kendall walked me through everything including setting up the suspension in detail, the rebound (e.g., front fork where no one else showed me where that even existed on my other not so inexpensive bike) and a number of other parts and adjustments. No one has ever spent that kind of time going over my bikes' operations at that level of detail and, even knowing that he was going off to spend the rest of the day with the family, not once did I feel rushed. Kendall would have clearly spent more time if I needed it.
Besides being immensely knowledgeable, Kendall is warm, practical and down to earth. His level of service is a standout and it's people like him that make you more than comfortable - and, pleased - with going out of your way to find and work with him. I have already begun letting my friends know about him and my only regret would be not living closer to him!

I can't believe it has taken me this long to review Bison Bikes. Amazing service that you will not get anywhere else! Kendall (the owner) goes above and beyond to help answer any questions you may have. I bought my Yeti SB5.5 through him and it was the best choice I made. Kendall had the bike shipped to his shop extremely quick and he built the bike up so it would be ready to go when I got there. When I picked up the bike he spent as much time with me as I needed to go over all my questions about maintenance on the bike. I have been back to his shop several times and would recommend anyone looking to get a new bike or bike parts go to Bison Bikes!

There is a lore about using your LBS (local bike shop), in exchange for paying tax (gasp), you get personalized service, fitting, great recommendations, a properly built bike, etc.. Sadly this is not always the experience. It's not to say other shops are bad, but with medium/larger shops it can really depend on who you talk to. Even living in a bike mecca like Bend, OR, I relied on friends that worked in shops as opposed to walking in.
The appointment based set up has a lot of advantages when buying a higher end bike. It's a relatively large investment that you will own for many years, requires regular maintenance on your end, and can be the difference between enjoying busting your a$$ on a ride or suffering. I'd like to consider myself an experienced rider, between commuting, mtn biking, and road biking, I'm on a bike every day and always work on and build up my own. But if you haven't bought a new bike in a while, a lot has changed and I wasn't sure I was even asking the right questions. Kendall has a way of explaining tons of detail in a friendly way that opens conversation. Even things I thought I knew (like cleaning and lubing), I picked up some great tidbits. There's a limited selection of accessories (compared to bigger shops), but it's all high quality stuff at very good prices, basically only what you would want to buy.
I've been wanting to add a carbon road bike as my vintage steel frame was getting too much wear and tear. After finding a cool LBS with a drool worthy selection of mountain bike brands, now I think I found an excuse to upgrade my old trustworthy mtn bike later this year (hopefully). :)

When was the last time you saw the repair work for your bike on a 42" monitor? Not recently (or ever) I suppose and ditto for me. I am a recent crossover road biker to mountain biker. The six year old Yeti ASR-c I purchased needed some love. The first bike mechanic gave me a load of negativity over the phone after going through all the work it needed. That experience was a stark contrast to the call from Kendall of Bison Bikes who said (with an uplifting tone) "This was one of my bigger challenges but I got rid of the annoying creaky noise and am still within the original price quote for the work". When I arrived at his shop, the Yeti was spotlessly clean and Kendall was amped up to show me what he had done. His iPhone connected to the big screen and away we went on a tour of the before and after photos of the areas getting his attention. The result was a wonderfully quiet smooth running bike and a great repair shop experience with an owner/mechanic totally passionate about bikes and customer service. Boom!

The owner is super down to earth, an expert in bike knowledge and I dont think he could be any more honest. I had some tune up stuff done on my mountainbike.
That being said, I think wanting to do the best job he can to fix your bike can become costly. But I'll go back just because I dont want to deal with my bike lol.
Aside from that, if I had to gripe about anything else, itd be the hours. By appointment only.

Over twenty years of cycling I have purchased numerous bikes from a variety of bike shops but none of these experiences can compare to working with Kendall at Bison Bikes. Cycle tech has changed dramatically over the last few years and Kendall took the time to bring me up to speed on all of the new advances from the front to the back on my new Pivot Mach 429 sl. First, I never write reviews, I read then just never wrote them. So the fact that I am compelled to write this review means a lot. Enough rambling.
I am new to cycling, started riding in May 2016 with my Fuji Hybrid bike. His guy is great he took his time with me and explained everything so well. Since I have been riding I have been to several bike stores, can't help it when I drive by a store my car automatically stops. In comparison to the service I have gotten at other places, I will return to Bison to purchase my next bike, a road bike this time.
If you are looking to purchase a bike and want the best personal service ever, I totally recommend visiting Bison Bikes.
This is will be the only shop I purchase bikes from because of the owners knowledge and service. Have I made it clear his guy is AWESOME.

Having never heard of Bison Bikes, or it's owner Kendall, I drove for 90 minutes to the shop to purchase a Pivot Mountain Bicycle that he had in stock. I was expecting a decent experience, but Kendall turned this into a superb, thoroughly enjoyable time. First, I had the owner's complete attention for an hour (or more) with zero interruptions, while he adjusted the bike and installed the options I asked for. The entire time, he is filling me with information about the bicycle, how to adjust, clean and maintain it as well as fun places to ride. I learned more about my new bike and mountain bikes in general, during this visit than in the previous six years visiting other shops to get my old bike serviced.
The service didn't stop when I left the shop either. I emailed questions, with accompanying videos and pictures and they were all answered promptly and thoroughly. If I had used another shop to get this information, I'd have to load the bike on the car, drive up to the shop, ask my questions, possibly leave the bike and come back to get it. So I wouldn't be surprised, in the end, if it's actually more efficient to drive to Bison Bikes than to visit the local shop.
I ride road bikes too, and expect to purchase a new one later this year. I'll definitely be returning to Kendall when I'm ready for a new road bike.
While "appointment only" might seem a disadvantage at first, it is actually a fantastic way to purchase a bike compared to working owners distracted by multiple customers, or employees that just don't have the experience and knowledge of the owner.

I called in to set up an appointment to have my bike reconditioned; not only was he extremely professional in conduct, but my bike looked like new with every detail payed attention to. This review has been a long time coming. Kendall was awesome and I highly recommend going to his shop if you're looking to buy a bike.
It had been ages since I'd ridden a bike as a child - but I had decided to buy a road bike for working out. I made several trips to a larger, more well known bike shop in the Roseville area, but I often had problems with the customer service and trying to order the bike I wanted (the order was cancelled after it was placed because they actually did not have any more in stock!), so I decided to look elsewhere. I'm 5'1... so it was hard to find a bike small enough for me that I felt comfortable riding. My husband and I did some research online, trying to find other bike shops in the area.
We came across Kendall's shop... his website was a huge factor for us choosing to visit his shop: he had current information on the bikes he had available (plus pictures with measurements, which was key because I was looking for something specific). He had several bikes in smaller sizes, so I had a few options which was great (because these sizes are surprisingly hard to find, even at other shops with larger inventory). Plus he said he's able to order bikes if he doesn't have them in stock.
Kendall's shop is by appointment only, which I liked because I wanted help with questions, concerns, and sizing, and this way he could dedicate his time to individual customers. Although, he was pretty busy helping another customer before me, as well as working on something for a customer after me - but I understand this is not his full time job so it didn't really bother me.
If you're looking to buy a bike, and you want someone who is knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful - then I definitely recommend this place!

Buy your next bike from Kendall, period! There is no one I trust more to purchase from or have service my bikes than Kendall. I've run the gamut of phases in biking, from being a avid intermediate road and mountain biker, to racing internationally for years, and back to an avid recreational rider, and Kendall has been a rock through it all; for advice, for support, for service, and for product.
I once returned from a brutal race in Brazil with my Santa Cruz XC Blur in pieces. The bike was a mess of snapped cables, ruptured brake calibers, scarred brake disks; even the paint was scrapped off most of the bike. I loved that bike. I handed the mess over to Kendall (who confidently assured me all would be fine), and then he worked his magic. When he was done, the paint job was incredible, everything worked perfectly, and it rode better than ever. I continued racing on that bike for years, until it was stolen (ugh!!).
Of course, Bison Bikes is where I bought my replacement mountain bike. For many reasons, yes, he's a great guy, so much knowledge, honest, dependable, passionate, and fair. But here's the really important part. Kendall doesn't just sell you a bike to sell you a bike. He truly wants you to have the best experience possible and takes time and effort to make it fit just right...making sure you have the RIGHT bike. Buy the right bike and you will have it a decade or longer, and enjoy it immensely. I have freakishly long legs, short torso, and disproportionately long arms. Several years ago, Kendall built me a road bike that is the most comfortable road bike I have ever had...a BH Carbon. He took time to make sure it was the right one for me, and was set up correctly. So when I replaced my stolen Blur last year, Kendall, once again, built me the most comfortable and enjoyable mountain bike I've ever had.
Call Bison Bikes, trust Kendall...I'm certain you will a very happy biker.

I can't say enough good things about Kendall!! I've been taking our bikes to him for the past 6 years and I couldn't be happier with the service he provides. He should write a book on customer service I feel it's that good...he makes everyone feel like a friend and Kendall is truely concerned about doing a great job for you. Last year I was referred to Bison Bikes by a good friend that had just purchased his first road bike through Kendall/owner of Bison Bikes. He spoke so highly of the great deal that he got, but even more so of the customer service that he received. My own experience has been awesome, mostly on the repair side of an older Mt. bike that Kendall efficiently fined tuned and at a very affordable price. He did such a great job that I think I have a few more good years of riding on my outdated Mt. bike. But when I decide that it is time to buy a new bike, I will not even hesitate to go through Kendall.

I had my eye on a Kestrel RT1000 that he had on Craigslist for over a month, and I knew I needed to check this bike out before it was sold. I’ve purchased several bikes here. The owner is amazing. Super friendly and no attitude like you experience at some bike stores. In addition, his prices are great, he’s super knowledgeable and goes beyond the norm to make sure you leave with a smile on your face. Highly recommend!
